Get your vitamins and minerals the easy way. Use the alphabet and your eyes...
to get all the vitamins and minerals you need to stay fit and healthy.
When I was a kid I only liked eating corn, meat and cheese. I can't be certain that being fussy made me the shortest and smallest of the men in my family, but it probably didn't help:-?
Getting your micro-nutrients from your diet is by far the best way.
Use the alphabet, no not vitamin A, B, C... A for avacado, B for Brocolli, C for carrots and on down the alphabet... Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits and it would be hard to miss any vitamins eating your way through the alphabet.
Also use your eyes, think colorful, like a Grateful Dead poster;-) COLORFUL
After doing some research one thing became clear, almost no one cares, remembers or wants to pronounce the names of the enzymes, phyto-nutrients, or antioxidants that make a food a certain color or which compounds prevent or do what.
YOU DON'T need to know anything other than the color to get the benefits.
Eat fruits and vegetables with skin or flesh from all the colors
(Green, White, Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue and Purple)
Eat most or all your fruits and veggies raw and with the skin on to get the most nutrition out of them.
IF you're like me:-? Your diet may still lack veggies. I'llcover some ideas about adding them to your diet conveniently at a later date.
, with a minimum of time and effort.
If you STILL need more, well you CAN take a multivitamin as a last resort:-)-The research about the benefits of multivitamins is mixed, but I have been taking one daily for years.
I can only tell you that I need to go to the doctor so rarely I either forget their name, or live somewhere else by the time I have a need to return for a second visit:-)
I also take EFA (essential fatty acid) / fish oil supplements because I'm not a big fan of fish. There is some research showing concerns about toxic metals showing up in fish oil capsules, but if the supplements are so bad, then how is eating the fish their made from better?
I can't say for sure whether the fish oil caps I take have toxic metals or not just as people who eat fish can't be sure they aren't eating fish contaminated with toxic metals.
Some supplement companies advertise their fish oil as being pure and free of toxic metals as their marketing strategy, like anything buyer beware, but so far years of taking them show me in better health than most people.
The simple way to get your vitamins... eat a colorful diet with a variety of fruits and veggies on a daily daily basis and you're probably good.
Take a multivitamin / multimineral supplement if you want to be sure. EFA caps, it's up to you but unless you eat fish regularly you're probably not getting the recommended EFA intake.
